The company name is inspired by the famous street “El Camino Real,” which runs through the Silicon Valley, California, USA. El Camino is Spanish for “the way.” The name represents El Camino’s mission to support you on your path to success in the design, implementation, and verification of digital circuits and systems.

Founded in 1999

The company was founded in 1999 by former long-time employees of Altera. Alongside programmable logic, the application of state-of-the-art methods for verifying complex ASIC designs and entire systems, such as mobile phone base stations, was added early on. This is ideally complemented by the development, manufacturing, and distribution of predominantly FPGA-based hardware.
